How to export your Twilio data

Last checked 28 September 2026

Answer

The Bulk Export API is the route for the full history. It produces daily dumps of Messages, Calls, Conferences or conference Participants as compressed GZIP JSON files, one record per line, timestamps in UTC to ISO 8601. Turn a resource on to get a file per day from then on, or request historical days, up to 366 days total within one UTC calendar day across a parent account and its subaccounts. The files are removed after seven days, so pull them within that window, and the API works in the US1 region only, not Ireland or Australia. Recordings come out through the REST API instead: GET /2010-04-01/Accounts/{AccountSid}/Recordings.json lists them, filtered by date created, call SID or conference SID and paged up to 1,000 records a page, and appending .wav to a recording URI returns a WAV at 128kbps or .mp3 returns an MP3 at 32kbps, both under HTTP Basic authentication. The Console shows the same per number under Communications then Numbers and senders then the Calls Log tab.

What it holds

Call records, conference and participant records, message logs and call recordings.

Find the size

Twilio shows no storage figure. Count records: each Bulk Export day file carries one JSON record per line, so the line count across the days is the call and message count, and the Recordings list resource pages 1,000 records at a time. Metadata for a soft deleted recording is held for a further 40 days.

What to enter on the form

Twilio in records, and the year your company started using it. Seller form
