Headcount and years, not terabytes. A twenty person agency with nine years of work outprices a distributor holding a hundred times the storage. What is being priced is how many people made the record, and for how long.
Volume is a modifier, not the price
Headcount sets the band. Volume moves a quote inside it, by about a fifth either way, and never moves it into the next band. It is the first number every seller reaches for and the last one a buyer looks at. A quarter of a terabyte out of a working office outprices tens of terabytes of backups, video and duplicated shares. Lead with headcount and the year your oldest records start.
What moves the number up
A wound down business whose whole corpus is available and whose rights are clean. Professional services where the work product is the asset: law, accounting, consulting, engineering, agencies, insurance, asset management. Operating complexity across several systems rather than one. A company's whole enterprise data rather than one export out of one system.
What moves it down
A partial drive. One ERP export on its own is the hardest thing in this market to place and it has not been clearing. Healthcare of any kind. Records you cannot show you own. Under three years, which most buyers refuse before they look.
