How to export your Figma data

Last checked 28 September 2026

Answer

A whole file comes out as one editable file: open it, click the Main menu, then File, then Save local copy, and it downloads to the downloads folder in .fig for Figma Design, .jam for FigJam, .deck for Figma Slides, .buzz for Figma Buzz, .site for Figma Sites or .make for Figma Make. Anyone with at least can view access can do this unless the file owner has restricted copying and exporting, and the setting is hidden when they have. Version history and comments are not in the local copy, and re-importing one makes a new file rather than reconnecting it to the original. For flat images instead, select the layers or frames, add a setting in the Export section of the right sidebar and click Export, or use File then Export to run every configured export in the file at once.

What it holds

Design files, FigJam boards, slide decks, components and libraries, with the frames, layers and pages inside them.

Find the size

Figma shows no byte figure and no file total. Count the files in the team, project by project, in the file browser, and quote that count plus the number of projects.

What to enter on the form

Figma in files, and the year your company started using it. Seller form
