How to export your AutoCAD data

Last checked 28 September 2026

Answer

AutoCAD itself writes files, so the export is a copy of the drawing folders. Where the drawings sit in Autodesk Docs, click the Files tool, select the files, and either use Download source file, which takes down the source file with no markups, or click Export and then Files (x), which lets you include published and unpublished markups, manually added markup references and issues, and then set a name format that appends up to five attribute values such as Version, Size and Last updated. Export needs View + Download folder permission or above. It takes up to 200 files at once to a maximum of 10 GB in total, covers PDF, DWG and RVT only, refuses password protected PDFs and files with processing errors, and DWG export covers 2D views for files uploaded after 1 May 2023 while RVT covers 2D views for Revit 2022 and later. The result is a ZIP in the local downloads folder, and pop-ups have to be enabled in the browser first.

What it holds

Drawings as DWG files, with their sheets, external references and revision history, sitting in whatever store the company keeps them in.

Find the size

Autodesk Docs shows no total for a project. Take the file count and byte total from the folder listing, whose Size attribute can also be appended to exported file names, and from the file system where the drawings are kept. Quote the DWG count and the total gigabytes.

What to enter on the form

AutoCAD in files, and the year your company started using it. Seller form
