How to export your Microsoft Teams meeting recordings data

Last checked 28 September 2026

Answer

The files are not in Teams. For meetings and events the recording saves to the organizer's OneDrive in a folder named Recordings; for 1:1 and group calls it lands in the OneDrive of whoever selected Record; for channel meetings it sits in the SharePoint team site document library under Teams name - Channel name then Documents then Recordings. To take a tenant's history out, an administrator signs in to the Microsoft Purview portal with eDiscovery permissions, selects the eDiscovery card then Cases, opens a case, opens the Searches tab, selects a search and clicks Export, sets the export name, item scope, document versions and package size, then Export, and downloads the packages from Process manager. That needs a Microsoft 365 Enterprise E3 or E5 license on the eDiscovery user, plus a SharePoint E3 license for SharePoint content. Search export packages expire 14 days after creation and are then deleted. The maximum zip package size is 2, 10 (default), 20 or 40 GB, and an export running more than seven days cancels itself, so split large ones by date range or source. A recording in a review set comes out as a .zip and its transcript as a separate file in the Conversations folder.

What it holds

Recorded meeting, event and call video with its matching transcript and captions.

Find the size

Microsoft states 400 MB per hour of recording. For the tenant figure, open the Microsoft 365 admin center, select Reports, select Usage, select OneDrive, then the Usage tab: it lists Files and Storage used (MB) per OneDrive, and Export writes the whole list to an Excel .csv. SharePoint site storage for channel recordings reads the same way from the SharePoint site usage report. Quote the storage used in GB and the recording hours it implies at 400 MB an hour.

What to enter on the form

Microsoft Teams meeting recordings in GB, and the year your company started using it. Seller form
