How to export your Discord data

Last checked 28 September 2026

Answer

The account holder presses the cogwheel in the lower left of the desktop or browser app to open User Settings, selects the Data and Privacy tab, scrolls to Request your data, presses Request Data, ticks which data to receive in the Submit Data Request window, then presses Request My Data. Discord emails a download link to the address on the account. The request takes up to 30 days, the link stays active for 30 days, and a new request cannot be submitted while one is running. On mobile the only option is Request all of my data. What arrives is a ZIP of JSON files, with one folder per channel under messages plus a JSON file mapping channel ID to channel name. A message the user deleted by hand is not in it, and a server left before the request may be missing.

What it holds

Messages sent in direct messages, group messages and server channels, the servers the account belongs to, plus audit log actions, channel lists and settings for servers the account owns.

Find the size

Discord prints no storage figure and no message total in the app. Count the message rows in the transcript JSON file inside each channel folder of the package.

What to enter on the form

Discord in messages, and the year your company started using it. Seller form
