How to export your Amplitude data

Last checked 28 September 2026

Answer

The full event history comes out of the Export API, a GET against the project's API key and secret key over HTTP Basic auth with a start and end hour. It answers with a zipped set of JSON files, one event object per line, split into one or more files per hour. One request covers at most 365 days and at most 4 GB, and a request over 4 GB answers 400, so a long history is pulled in blocks or routed to an Amazon S3 export instead. Data is available within 2 hours of the servers receiving it, and the timestamps are UTC server upload time. Downloading off a chart instead is capped: a breakdown table CSV tops out near 10,000 rows, Funnel Analysis, Retention Analysis and Revenue LTV at 300, and Microscope Download users at 1 million.

What it holds

Raw product events with their event properties, user properties and device identifiers.

Find the size

Amplitude counts events, not bytes. Settings then Organization settings then Projects, then select the project, shows the instrumentation usage and event volume, which is calculated per calendar month and reset to zero on the first. Quote the monthly event volume and the number of months the project has been running.

What to enter on the form

Amplitude in records, and the year your company started using it. Seller form
